Raw Dog Food Feeding

  • To transition your dog to raw food, follow a gradual 10-day plan:
    - Days 1-3: 25% raw food, 75% old food
    - Days 4-6: 50% raw food, 50% old food
    - Days 7-9: 75% raw food, 25% old food

Some dogs may need a longer transition period, so adjust as necessary based on your dog's response.

  • If your dog has a sensitive stomach, start with smaller amounts of raw food and monitor their response closely. You can adjust the ratio of kibble to raw food as needed before making a full switch. Include pumpkin with most meals which helps with sensitive stomachs and digestibility.

  • During the transition, your dog may experience a detox phase as their body adjusts to the new diet. This can include symptoms like vomiting, loose stools, bad breath, and gas. These symptoms are typically normal but can vary in duration.

  • To help regulate your dog’s digestive system, consider adding plain canned organic pumpkin (without additives) to their meals. Incorporating high-quality pre/probiotics and plain non-dairy yogurt can also be beneficial during this period. Feel free to add a raw meaty bone to assist in hardening the stool.

  • You may notice changes in your dog’s bowel movements, including reduced frequency and the presence of white stools, which can result from the bone content in their new diet. Mucus-covered stools may surface during detoxification and are generally not a cause for concern.

  • While raw diets have higher moisture content than kibble, there’s no need for concern if your dog drinks less water. But it's essential to ensure your dog has constant access to fresh, clean water. Even if they drink less, hydration is crucial for their overall health.
